Fit-to-Fight

Get in better shape by drilling the things that actually protect you. The conditioning comes out of the skills themselves, so the work you put in makes you both fitter and harder to hurt.

The idea

Being in shape and being capable are not the same thing

Plenty of people are fit in a way that has nothing to do with protecting themselves. They can run a long way or lift something heavy, and still gas out in twenty seconds of something they've never rehearsed.

Fit-to-Fight closes that gap. The conditioning comes out of the protection skills themselves, so the reps that make you fitter are the same reps that make you more capable. You're not doing a workout and then, separately, learning to defend yourself. It's one thing.

You start where you are. We build the work around your current fitness, your history, and anything your body doesn't do well anymore, and we go from there at a pace you can actually sustain.

Who it's for
Someone who wants to get fitter and more capable at the same time, without two separate commitments.
People who find the gym boring and stick with training that has a point to it.
Anyone coming back after a long layoff, an injury, or a few years away from anything physical.
Personal Protection students who want their body to keep up with what they now know.

What you'll be able to do

By the time you've put the work in

Last longer than the momentKeep working when your lungs are burning, which is when most people quit.

Move better under stressGet your body to do what you tell it, even with adrenaline running.

Build usable strengthStrong in the positions the skills actually put you in, where it counts.

Recover fasterGet your breathing and your thinking back quickly after a spike.

Protect your jointsMove well enough that training makes you more durable instead of beating you up.

Keep the skills sharpEvery conditioning rep is a rep of something worth knowing.

What we work on

Five things every session is built from

01

Conditioning built from the skills

The rounds are made of the movements you'd actually use: creating distance, moving off a line, getting up off the ground, covering ground fast. You get your heart rate up doing something that matters.

02

Movement quality first

Before we add speed or load, we make sure your hips, shoulders, and ankles do what they're supposed to. Most people arrive with something stiff or cranky, and we work around it and then on it.

03

Strength where it matters

Grip, hips, core, and the ability to hold a position under someone else's weight. Strength in the positions the skills actually put you in, scaled to what you can do today rather than what you could do ten years ago.

04

Working while tired

This is the part almost nobody trains. Late in the session, when you're winded and sloppy, we run the skills again, because that's the state you'd actually be in.

05

Recovery and staying in it

Breathing that brings your heart rate down, a warmup you'll actually do, and a load you can repeat next week. Training you quit in a month is worth very little.

Every block is scaled to you. Nothing here requires you to already be fit, and nothing here is about making you throw up. The goal is a body that holds up, week after week.

Where this actually shows up

Conditioning is invisible right up until the moment it decides the outcome. These are the moments it shows.

A confrontation that doesn't end quickly Still thinking clearly when you're gassed Sprinting when leaving is the answer Holding someone off until help arrives Getting back to your feet fast Protecting your kids when it's on you Carrying someone who can't walk Recovering after the adrenaline drops Being harder to pick as a target
How it works

From first call to steady progress

1

Book a session

Start with a single session or a package. A quick call sets it up.

2

Assessment

We look at where your fitness actually is, what your body doesn't like doing, past injuries, and what you want to be able to do. That becomes your plan.

3

Your plan

A simple written plan: what we're building, in what order, and what you'll do between sessions. Scaled so you can keep it up.

4

Train

90-minute one-on-one sessions, with short work in between to hold your progress.

5

Monthly readiness check

Once a month we look at what's improved, what's still stiff or slow, and adjust the load around it.

Inside a 90-minute session
15m

Greeting, warmup, concepts

Settle in, warm up properly, review the week, and walk through what we're working on today.

65m

Drilling and practical application

The bulk of the session. Skill work that doubles as conditioning, built up in rounds, then run again while you're tired.

10m

Debrief

Cool down, what held up and what didn't, and the short work you'll take into the week.

The temperature here

What you won't get here

No big egos, no know-it-all attitude, no hyper-tactical operator act, and nobody yelling at you to prove a point.

We won't preach at you, and we won't make you feel small for being out of shape or out of practice. We'll build from where you are and take you as far as you want to go, with care and patience in every interaction. What we want is simple: you, walking around with earned confidence.

Why we're the ones teaching it

This comes from real protective work

ARDENT is a protection company that teaches. What's in this course comes out of executive protection work our Agents are doing right now.

1

We protect people for a living

ARDENT runs executive protection details for clients whose risk is real, and we are doing that work now rather than remembering it. That is where this material comes from, and it is why it stays current.

2

Darryl leads, with a team behind him

Darryl Johnson built ARDENT's training and the standard behind it. His background runs through the military, law enforcement, and executive protection, the same work he now teaches. Alongside him is a small team of experienced professional instructors.

3

One curriculum, one standard

Everything traces back to the curriculum we hold our own Agents to, so whoever you train with, you're getting the same standard, taught the same way.

4

We only teach what we can do ourselves

Nothing here is theory borrowed from somebody else's manual. If we teach it, we do it, and we'll tell you honestly where the edge of our experience is rather than pretend it isn't there.

Questions

Before your first session

Do I need to already be in shape?

No, and most people aren't. We scale every block to what you can do today. Starting unfit is normal here and nobody is going to make a thing of it.

Is this a workout or is it self-defense?

Both, on purpose. The conditioning is built out of the protection skills, so the same rounds that get you fitter are teaching you something useful. That's the whole idea of the track.

What if I have an injury or something that flares up?

Tell us at the assessment and we'll build around it. Working around a bad shoulder or knee is normal, and we'd rather adjust the plan than have you push through something and lose a month.

Will I be wrecked the next day?

Not if we do it right. We build load gradually so you can train again later that week. The goal is progress you can sustain, not one session that impresses you and then puts you on the couch.

What should I wear and bring?

Athletic clothes you can move in, training shoes, and water. We provide any equipment we use.

How is this different from a gym or a martial arts class?

A gym builds fitness with no context. A class moves at the group's pace. This is one-on-one, built around your body and your life, and every rep is tied to a skill worth having.

Where do we train?

Across South Florida. Our own space, a partner facility, or your home or office, whichever fits the work and your schedule.
